Project 52: Week 2

week two: up

This week’s theme was “up”, and I played around with the idea all week. I had ideas for balloons, trees, planes, birds… and then last night I watched Ben climb the stairs and KNEW that it was “the” shot I wanted. But, being the typical 3 year old, Ben rarely cooperates when I want him to, so I didn’t have high hopes it would turn out. Tonight though, he didn’t run from the camera, and he actually paused on a few steps for me to take his picture with his “coffee” (his water bottle) :) I may not have ruined him from cameras (yet)! :)

52 Week Challenge: Week 1

This week’s theme for the 52 week photography challenge (where you take one picture per week for a year): breakfast!

I’ve been mixing up smoothies with our beloved magic bullet, and my favorite at the moment is frozen strawberries, blueberries, 1/4 cup vanilla yogurt, spinach, and a scoop of chocolate protein powder. Ben loves helping me mix it up!

Challenges and Giveaways

With the New Year, I’ve joined a few challenges and am loving the giveaways from some of my favorite photography sites. The first challenge is a photography related one from a group of ladies on Clickin Moms. Every month we have a theme, and then have to blog our photos of that theme by the 2nd of the month. Then we link to each other’s posts, and there are 12 of us in each group. The first theme is “The way I view beginnings”. Still brainstorming on this one, but excited to see what everyone comes up with :) Check back on February 2nd for my ideas!

Now that it’s been over a year since we moved into our house, I’m also brainstorming on how to kick things up with our home organization and designing. We still have stuff in boxes in the basement, and I’m determined to finally clean out both the attic and our basement this year. I’ve joined another group over at Clickin Moms, but instead of photography, we’re helping each other with the “Fly Lady” method for cleaning and organization. I haven’t scoped out the details yet, but here’s hoping I can whip our place into shape!

The other challenge is of course, back to Weight Watchers. I spent all of 2011 maintaining my weight, and I managed to stay within the same 5 lbs ALL year. I’m ready to kick it up a notch and finally shake it up to lose the final pounds. Weight Watchers is new and improved, and I’m already planning my first week of the year to start off on the right foot :)

Photography Challenges

I have been following a few websites lately that have posted a few photography-related contests and challenges, and I’m desperately in need of something to get me out of my rut with photography. I’m not practicing as much as I used to, because honestly, how many photos can I take of Ben running around our backyard? So hopefully I’ll find a few challenges or contests to spark my creativity, or just get me excited about taking photos again.

Meanwhile, I’m editing photographs of our friend’s recent trip out here to visit, and once I’m done, I’ll post those soon (password protected, of course). We had some GORGEOUS weather last weekend and the kids had a great time together. We saw museums and ate out and just really had fun just relaxing together. Makes me miss our far away friends!

Public Protection

I’ve come to that point in my public blogging life where I no longer feel safe divulging photos and information about my family and make it available to the public. Events have recently happened that sadly, have forced me to really evaluate who sees our family information, and what once used to be a fun tool to interact with the world has now turned into something that I fear may cause harm to those I care about.

From this point forward, if you would like to view this site, you will need to request a password from myself or Joe, so please, forward this on to anyone you know who may wish to view this site, and have them contact me via Facebook or email (or twitter, however you found me). I’m not super restrictive BUT I will be tracking who you are, so that I know who I’m letting into our life :)

This way, I can better control who has access to our personal information, and I can sleep better at night knowing I’m not enabling anyone to damage our family. I hate that this world is unsafe, and that I need to put these measures in, but it is what it is, and at least this way I can still share my updates with those close to us, who can’t be physically here.

What does this mean for my photography shots? I’ll still post some photos to the “public” facing side, but if my hobby becomes more serious, I may branch it off into it’s own website. That way I can truly separate the two lives :)
